Education

In May 2015, I earned my Master’s in Philosophy at Duquesne University. My GPA was 3.9. I earned my Bachelor’s degree at Bradley University in 2013. I studied Biology and Philosophy. I graduated Summa Cum Lauda with a GPA of 3.9 and was named the Student of the Year by both the Biology and the Philosophy Departments.

Experience

Teaching has never been simply a "job" for me: it is a passion. I take great pride in helping students understand difficult concepts and improve their grades. My objective, though, is not only to help students score higher on assignments; I also strive to shape my students into independent learners who have confidence in themselves. At Bradley, I tutored for 3 years through the University’s Center for Learning Assistance, logging over 600 hours. I worked with both individuals and small groups. Before major exams and quizzes, I would organize and lead large review sessions. My area of expertise was/is general biology, cell and molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, genetics, and organic chemistry 1. For the past 2 years I have been serving as a graduate assistant and professor in the philosophy department at Duquesne University. At this institution, I have made great strides as an instructor and am better-equipped to assist students and tutees. With the skills I have acquired studying philosophy, I have become an excellent editor and can help students structure and write papers, reports, and essays.

Hobbies

As noted above, teaching isn't so much a "job" as it is a passion. Admittedly, I was a little nervous when I first began tutoring at Bradley University. The first sessions went smoothly, though, and I soon began tutoring 20 to 30 hours a week. I took pride in helping fellow students understand difficult concepts. I tutored some students for several consecutive semesters. It was satisfying seeing their grades improve, but what pleased me the most was seeing students become more and more independent. Instead of looking to me for explanations, tutees began to explain the concepts themselves, looking to me for confirmation and clarification. This is my goal: help students become more independent and self-confident.
